EcoSociety has been protecting our environment and building community for over 15 years. Starting with advocating for West Arm Provincial Park and operating a regional recycling facility, EcoSociety has never stopped serving.

Your membership helps support our efforts to Keep Jumbo Wild, provide free environmental education programs all summer at the Kokanee Creek Park Visitor’s Centre, celebrate our community at three Market Fests, operate the Kootenay Rideshare, and much more.

Click here to go to our membership page and choose from several membership options, including an easy monthly payment as low as $3.

Members receive discounts at over 20 local businesses, and most importantly, participate in improving our community and protecting our environment.

Jumbo Action Alert

The province is moving forward this week with legislation that would allow an unprecedented assault on our democracy: creating a municipality where there are no permanent residents.

The move would allow the Ministry of Community, Sport, and Cultural Development to appoint the Jumbo Resort town council, which could then make land use decisions with no accountability at all.

We are inviting the public to CALL or FAX the premier’s office on Monday May 7 with a simple message: We want our Jumbo Wild!

Documentary – Why I Love The Kootenays
By Morghan Watson

Very unique with the use of stop motion animation. Super awesome sketches and a nice count down from 3-2-1. She acknowledges how lucky we are to be in this area and to have these wonderfully clean resources. Great link beyond herself and into future generations!!

2nd Place

Loving the Kootenays: Shedding the light
By Kazia Drake

An extremely powerful soundtrack brings us perfectly into an unique and unexpected topic: Light Pollution. A sweet narration with soft video and great images used. A good explanation with suggestions on how we can act to help reduce the problem.

3rd Place

Love the Kootenays
By Silk Lauritzen

Lego model of boats in clean water with hydroelectric power…and super odd narrative voices. Unique and interesting movement of the boat with a message that is loud and clear for the audience. Makes us appreciate what we have and also reinforces the importance of choosing the appropriate method of energy generation.

Beautiful Jumbo Photos

Nelson-based photographer Lucas Jmieff www.lucasimage.ca has shared an amazing gallery of photos of Jumbo Valley area in hopes of helping to protect it for current and future generations of explorers and grizzly bears.

Nelson Garden Festival May 12

If gardens are good teachers, there will be lots to learn at the 11th Annual Nelson Garden Festival, Saturday, May 12 on downtown Baker Street.

“We have more vendors than ever,” says one of the festivals organizers Glyn Violini. “Each year the festival grows and really, community agriculture prospers.”

Violini, a heather and rose vendor who helped start the first garden festival, has seen the event grow from a few tables in 2001, to more than 40 vendors and community groups today. (more…)
