Stand up for the last remaining old growth forests in British Columbia

Send your personal letter to let the new NDP Government know you need your health and safety put first and protecting old growth forests is essential to clean air to breathe and clean water to drink.

Some key points to include in your letter (and explanations to help you with context):

  • To protect British Columbia’s last remaining old growth forests, I ask that you
    • immediately stop logging within the old growth deferral areas announced in 2020
    • immediately put a meaningful pause on old growth logging in all areas with big, ancient trees
    • immediately begin to implement all 14 recommendations of the independent Old Growth panel’s report
    • commit to complete the report’s recommendations within the recommended three year timeline
  • Water sources need to be protected, jobs need to be sustainable into the future, and old growth forests are more valuable left untouched than they are logged and gone forever
  • People need clean water to drink to be healthy, and protecting old growth forests is also about protecting our watersheds and keeping our drinking water clean
  • Old growth forests are carbon sinks, meaning they store carbon and help safeguard people from the worst climate impacts

Personalize your letter so it is clear why this is important to you. You can include things like:

  • A common value you hope they share with you
  • A note about why you personally value your local old growth forests (recreation activities, a favourite memory, a cultural/spiritual significance)
  • A short story about how you have personally experienced old growth forest destruction in your area

Remember to keep the letter on point and to roughly a page long (500 words).

Go the extra mile, write a social media post and tag these government representatives!

Every action shows them you are paying attention.
