Meet Your Farmers’ Market Vendors

Nelson’s farmers’ markets will be starting in June, and this year they will be different. With everyone’s safety our priority, we’re following the provincial guidelines to run the markets and support our local farmers.

These farmers are the people keeping our markets alive this year. The new rules allow only farmers and prepared foods at the market. Unfortunately, the markets won’t be a place to linger and hang out. It will be a shop, don’t stop set up.

Local food security is a value we share with the farmers and producers. Leading up to the markets, we’re profiling some of our farmers so that you can see how hard they are working to bring you the best local produce and plants and help you make healthy choices that support local businesses.

This week, we’re looking at Linden Lane Farms.

Linden Lane Farms in Krestova makes it easier to grow great plants and eat amazing food.

Third generation farmer Matthew Carr is making good use of his horticulture degree, after finally settling back in the Kootenays to farm full-time, and continues to push the boundaries of local food production. This year perhaps more than ever local food security is on everyone’s mind.

The farm mainly produces an array of certified organic vegetables and small fruits on 4 of their family’s 150 acre farm. They also offer the Central Kootenays a special edible plant nursery in the spring growing vegetable and herb transplants, sweet potato slips as well as providing berries, tree fruits and edible perennials.

Linden Lane Farms has been attending the Nelson markets and garden festivals since 2013. Check out their available plant inventory listed on their website, wwww.lindenlanefarms.ca.

The website is full of useful planting advice to help your gardens thrive. You can also check out their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs which they offer at the market. Why go CSA?

  • It supports local farmers
  • You access fresh produce & try new foods
  • You save time & money at the market
  • You help build community & stay healthy!

Matt, the Carr family and the farm crew are very busy at this time of year, and we wish them the best through this time and look forward to seeing them at the Nelson farmers’ markets starting in June!
