Nelson Markets Update – COVID-19

Hello everyone, it’s been a surreal couple of weeks for us at the EcoSociety and specifically for me and the markets adapting to this curveball the Covid-19 pandemic has thrown.

The update for now is that we are postponing Gardenfest in May to 2021, and both our MarketFest events previously scheduled for July and August until summer 2021.

We’ve made this difficult decision based on correspondence with the BC Farmers Markets Association who are working closely with the BC Centre for Disease Control. Provincial health are allowing only food vendors and alcohol vendors to vend. Along with this will come a list of social distancing protocols and sanitary practices.

The province has announced Farmers’ Markets are an essential service as of last week and we will begin our market season the first week of June. Until then we will work towards making the markets as safe and efficient as possible for our vendors and farmers’ market visitors.  We’ll be monitoring the situation and be in touch with our vendors and community as things progress.

We are also looking at adding an online platform for our vendors to use at no cost which would work alongside our physical market to help simplify the market shopping experience for those wanting a more socially distanced experience.

We will be contacting vendors with applications very soon and continue to keep you updated as the situation progresses.
